Equine Surgical Lift Table
Introduction
Equine hospital utilizes scissor lift technology to create a variable-position, multi-use surgical table.
Project Challenge
Oakridge Equine Hospital contacted Autoquip in an effort to develop an adjustable, durable, and portable surgical table. Once anesthetized, horses would be positioned on their side or back on the surgical lift table. Then, once aboard, the patient and lift table need to be easily transported into the operating room and adjusted to the veterinarian’s preferred working height. Particular challenges associated with this design: 1) easily transported when loaded, 2) requires lightweight (aluminum), removable head and leg supports that can be readily moved from one position to another on the surgical table, and 3) lift finish must withstand hosing down with water after every surgery with minimal corrosion/deterioration.
Our Solution
Upon review of the customer’s application, Autoquip recommended customization to a Series 35 scissor lift. This custom solution provided ample lifting capacity and provided a vertical travel range that worked well for all surgical applications. The lift was reinforced and fitted with a transport kit consisting of four swivel casters with brakes for stationary positioning. To accommodate the patient’s head & legs, aluminum extensions were designed that could quickly and easily be attached to the platform perimeter. The final product was finished with 2-part epoxy paint and spray-on plastic coating on the top of the lift table platform. General Lift Specifications: Lifting Capacity: 2,500 lbs. Vertical Travel: 48″ Platform Size: 42″ x 84″ with “pockets” for removable head/leg supports Power unit: Wash-down rated Actuation: Hydraulic
The Results
Autoquip’s custom lift has proven to be a reliable and cost-effective surgical table that is safe for both the surgical staff and the equine patients. The lift is easy to maneuver, simple to adept, and provides an ergonomic benefit for the surgeons.
