Load Cell Lift System Weighs Stacked Drilling Pipe

Load cell lift system for weighing pipes eliminates risks of overloading crane.

A developer of heavyweight drill pipe were using an overhead crane to feed pipe into a heat treatment oven, but were facing problems overloading the crane. They needed a solution to weigh accumulated stack of pipe before using the crane and contacted Autoquip for a solution.

Autoquip’s engineers designed a load cell lift system consisting of 3 Super Titan Scissor Lifts with scales positioned under each base frame. Pipes are rolled onto lift 1 and 2, or all 3 subject to size requirements. Load cells provide a digital read out of the combined weight.
